PM tasks Punjab govt to hold early local bodies election

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Imran Khan has tasked Punjab government to hold early local bodies elections and ordered to complete all preparations in this regard.

According to details, local body elections are likely to be held in April next year.

Talking to media, Local Government Minister Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed said that Punjab government is ready to hold local body elections in March-April next year.

He said that legislative process will also be completed soon in this regard.

Minister said that Election Commission (EC) can make necessary arrangements for the elections as provincial government is fully prepared.

He said that elections would be held in two stages, in the first phase, the Village Council and Neighborhood Council elections will be held on a non-partisan basis.

In the second phase, elections for Tehsil Council and Metropolitan Mayors will be held on a party basis.
