Pakistan has recognised the Republic of South Sudan as the world's newest independent country.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has approved the recognition of the Republic of South Sudan.In a message to the President of South Sudan, Gilani conveyed felicitations on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan and expressed his best wishes for success in nation-building efforts and socio-economic development.
