Rainstorms wreak havoc in Punjab, 11 people killed in multiple accidents

Eight people killed in Okara roof collapse
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab province was hit severely by rainstorms on Monday, with 11 people losing their lives in multiple accidents across the province. Accidents reported claimed the lives of eight people in Okara, two in Haveli Lakha and one in Toba Tek Singh.
Eight people, including women and children, were killed when the roof of their house collapsed due to strong winds in Okara. Rescue workers are busy carrying out relief efforts in the area.
According to rescue officials, the tragic accident took place in Basti Tariqabad area of Okara. As soon as the incident was reported, rescue teams rushed to the spot and started removing the debris.
Rescue teams are engaged in rescue operations while the injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital by ambulances. The entire neighborhood is in mourning over the tragic accident.
On the other hand, there are reports that a young man was killed in a lightning strike in Toba Tek Singh. The deceased was identified as Nasir, a 30-year-old resident of Chak No. 482. According to eyewitnesses, the man was watering the fields when lightning struck him.
In other incidents, fires broke out due to strong winds at eight places in Minchinabad, including Mirzika, Achhangar, Mahmoodpur Lalika, Shehzad Nagar, Rahmonka and others.
In Lahore, more than 200 feeders tripped due to strong winds and rain, adding to the misery of some citizens already facing load shedding. Power supply to most parts of the city was cut off as a result of the storm.
In Gujranwala, power supply to the city was severely affected due to rain and winds, while power supply to Sialkot and surrounding areas was also cut off due to the weather.
Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has expressed grief over the loss of precious human lives in various accidents across the province and offered heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims.
He has directed officials to provide the best possible medical facilities to those injured in the accidents and directed Rescue 1122 and other relief related departments to remain vigilant at all times. In case of any untoward incident, immediate start of relief activities has been ordered by the CM.
