UAE suspends entry for travellers from Pakistan, three other countries
The suspension is effective from 11.59pm on Wednesday, May 12.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the suspension of entry for travellers from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka on national and foreign flights.
The suspension is effective from 11.59pm on Wednesday, May 12.
The UAE s National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority and Civil Aviation tweeted: "Suspension of entry for travelers from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka on national and foreign flights, also for transit passengers, with the exception of transit flights traveling to UAE and bound for these countries."

The decision exempts transit flights coming to the UAE and heading towards these countries. This decision is applicable to the entry of travellers who were in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka in the last 14 days before coming to the UAE.
"Flights between the four countries will continue to allow the transport of passengers from the UAE to Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka," the Gulf state s National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) said.
The UAE last month banned entry to travellers from India to guard against the spread of the highly contagious Indian variant.
The authority also confirmed that it is required for those coming from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka through other countries to stay in those countries for at least 14 days before being allowed to enter the UAE. Cargo flights will continue to operate between the UAE and these countries.
On Monday, Pakistan reported 78 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 861,473. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 18,993.
According to the latest figures issued by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 3,447 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
Province-wise Details
Punjab remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths and cases followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
319,365 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Punjab, 292,644 in Sindh, 124,484 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 78,200 in Islamabad, 23,447 in Balochistan, 17,945 in Azad Kashmir and 5,388 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Tests and Recoveries
Pakistan has so far conducted 12,228,42 coronavirus tests and 37,756 in the last 24 hours. 762,105 patients have recovered in the country whereas 4,846 patients are in critical condition.
