President promulgates ordinance to protect parents from forced eviction by children

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - President Dr. Arif Alvi has promulgated the "Parents Protection Ordinance 2021".

The ordinance aims to protect parents from forced eviction by their children. Under the ordinance, evicting parents will be a punishable offense.

Those who found guilty of the offence will face prison up-to one year or fine or both. 

Earlier President Dr Arif Alvi had promulgated the "Elections [Second Amendment] Ordinance, 2021" enabling overseas Pakistanis to exercise their right to vote and paving the way to hold next general election through Electronic Voting Machines (EVM).

The President issued the ordinance under Article 89 of the Constitution and it shall come into force at once.

The Ordinance states that the Election Commission of Pakistan shall with technical assistance of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) or any other authority and agency shall enable oversees Pakistanis to exercise their right to vote during general elections in the country of residence.

It further said that the commission shall procure electronic voting machines for casting of votes in general elections.
