Rescue 1122 becomes independent body under Punjab Emergency Service Bill

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Emergency Service (Amendment) Bill 2021 passed in Tuesday’s Punjab Assembly session by a majority vote. Under the new Bill, Rescue 1122 has been made an independent body.

The Bill gives DG Rescue 1122 the powers of a provincial secretary. With the approval of the bill, emergency officers will be posted at the divisional and district level and will be known as divisional officers.

The promotion of emergency officers to the next grade will be decided by the section committee and all promotions will be subject to performance of 17 years. Promotion courses and physical fitness have been made mandatory for promotion.

Rescue officers will work in BPS-11 and will be eligible for promotion to BPS-12 based on their performance.

The bill was tabled by PML-Q MPA Khadija Umar and unanimously approved by the House.

After the approval of the bill, Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervez Elahi said that today, the House has approved a historic bill. “By the Grace of Allah, I created this institution and today Allah gave the opportunity to legislate to improve it further”, he added.

He said that Rescue 1122 would now flourish even more, advancing the journey of public service and relief.

On the other hand, the Punjab Assembly also passed a resolution to provide free education to children between the ages of five and 16 in which it is demanded that the federal government take steps for this.
