MQM-P decides to remain ally of PTI Govt in Senate polls
MQM-P Rabita Committee to continue contacts with PPP at Sindh level in the future.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-Pakistan) on Sunday decided to remain an ally of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in the upcoming Senate elections, Dunya News reported.
The decision to support the PTI government in the Senate election was taken during the MQM-P Rabita Committee’s second meeting wich concluded on late Sunday night.
According to sources, it was also decided in the Rabita Committee to continue contacts with Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) at Sindh level in the future. It is pertinent to mention here that the PPP had sought support from MQM for Yousuf Raza Gilani s seat.
Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-Pakistan) Convener Kanwer Naveed Jameel on Sunday said that Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) has a history of breaking promises and no decision has yet been taken not to vote for government candidate Abdul Hafeez Shaikh in Senate elections.
Talking to media in Karachi on Sunday, he said that the MQM-Pakistan is an ally of the government but they do not know anything about the future.
He clarified that the party leadership did not attend the luncheon arranged by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) because there was a communication gap.
Kanwer Naveed said that those who want to buy their vote were still trying but no one can buy MQM’s votes, however, he said that contacts in politics do not end.
Earlier in the day, a delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) had excused from attending the luncheon arranged by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to discuss Senate polls.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi told that MQM-P is government’s ally and that its members were unable to participate in the session due to their busy schedule.
It is to be mentioned here that PTI had arranged a meeting of MQM-P and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) over the Senate elections.
Earlier, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had offered two Senate seats from Sindh to MQM-P in return for vote to Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) joint candidate for Senate polls, Yousuf Raza Gillani.
Sindh Minister for Information and Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that PPP’s candidates are ready to hand over the general and women seat to the MQM-P for support to Yusuf Raza Gillani in Senate elections.
A PPP delegation comprising Nasir Hussain Shah, Murtaza Wahab, Sharjeel Memon and Waqar Mehdi visited MQM-P headquarters in Bahadurabad, where they were welcomed by the party’s senior deputy convener Amir Khan.
MQM leader Aamir Khan thanked the PPP delegation for coming to the MQM Markaz.
