Seven districts of Punjab to maintain 50% attendance in schools

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Department of School Education has decided to maintain the policy of 50% attendance in educational institutions in seven districts of Punjab due to the threat of coronavirus.

According to the notification issued by the school education department, the decision of 100% attendance will not be applicable in the districts where 20 or more coronavirus cases are being reported daily.

The notification says that students in Lahore, Gujarat, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sialkot, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad would attend school on alternate days. This policy will continue to be implemented until March 31.

According to the notification, if the situation improves, the policy will be reviewed.

On Thursday, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood said that all schools would resume regular 5-day classes from March 1.

Shafqat Mehmood, in a tweet, said that restrictions imposed in some major cities to conduct staggered classes were only till Feb 28.

He also emphasized that the announcement applies to every educational institutions in the designated cities where restrictions had been imposed by the government to curb spread of coronavirus.
