ECP completes scrutiny of nomination papers for Senate elections
Polling will be held on March 3 at the Parliament House in Islamabad and four provincial assemblies.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday completed the scrutiny of nomination papers of candidates for Senate elections, Dunya News reported.
A total 170 nomination papers were filed by the candidates for 48 seats of the Senate. The ECP has rejected the nomination papers of 29 candidates after which the number to candidates for Senate election was reduced to 141.
According to details, the ECP accepted the nomination papers of 77 candidates for general seats, 34 nomination papers for seats reserved for women, 20 for technocrat seats and 10 nomination papers for minority seats.
As per details, the ECP accepted 40 nomination papers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 35 from Balochistan, 35 from Sindh, 22 from Punjab and 09 from Islamabad.
As per schedule, the candidates can file appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers on February 20 and the last date for disposing of these appeals is February 23.
The revised list of candidates will be published on February 24. The candidates can withdraw their nomination papers on February 25.
