Local bodies election case: SC issues written order of February 4 hearing

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Supreme Court has issued the written order of this week’s hearing of the case related to local bodies elections.

According to the written order, Additional Advocate General Punjab could not give an answer regarding the dissolution of local bodies. The court has summoned Advocate General Punjab in the next hearing.

The court remarked that the Sindh government has not submitted any reply regarding the local body elections. It summoned Advocate General Sindh at the next hearing to give a reply.

According to the court, the case of Balochistan local body elections has been pending for two years. It ordered to send a copy of the verdict to the Balochistan High Court.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) informed about holding local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. The next hearing of the case will be held on March 1.

According to the order, the Attorney General said that the matter of objections to the census and a recount was in the CCI. It was ordered to inform the court about the decision taken by CCI. The court said that dissolution of local bodies and not conducting census was unconstitutional, the government must abide by the law and constitution.

A two-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Qazi Faiz Issa and Justice Maqbool Baqar had heard the case.
