Neighboring countries can work together to eradicate drugs: Ijaz Shah
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Ijaz Ahmed Shah has said that no country can build a drug free society without cooperation between institutions. Neighboring countries can work together to eradicate drugs.
These views were expressed by Federal Minister for Narcotics Control in an exclusive interview with Iran s News Agency. The interview was conducted in connection with the visit of Iran’s Anti-Narcotics Police Chief Brigadier General Majid Karimi to Pakistan.
The Federal Minister said that no country can build a drug free society without full coordination between the institutions. He himself has served as the Regional Director of the Anti-Narcotics Force, so he is well aware of drug issues.
"Neighboring countries can work together to eradicate drugs," he said. Ijaz Shah said that Pakistan welcomes Iran s offer of cooperation and awaits Iran s anti-narcotics police chief visit.
Ijaz Shah said that his goal in eradicating drugs is to eliminate the demand for drugs. With less demand, suppliers can be dealt. Awareness of the dangers of drugs and working on rehabilitation is very important, he added.
"Preventing drug trafficking is also one of our top priorities," he said. Institutions are under consideration for the treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts. In the meeting with the Iranian delegation, issues related to the two countries will be discussed.
