Presidential ordinance cannot change Senate election procedure: Fazlur Rehman

BAHAWALPUR (Dunya News) - Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that Presidential Ordinance cannot change the procedure of Senate election, Senate election through show of hands is unconstitutional.

He said that holding Senate elections is the job of the Election Commission (EC), prime minister Imran Khan cannot announce it.

PDM chief was talking to the media in Bahawalpur and said that even the Supreme Court can only interpret the constitution but cannot change it.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the government has announced to hold the Senate elections in February while the voting will be through show of hands. He criticized government’s decision and said that it is the job of the Election Commission to hold elections. Who gave the right to the fake PM to announce senate elections, if the Election Commission is free it should take immediate notice, he added.

Fazlur Rehman said that Senate election through show of hands is unconstitutional. The court can interpret the constitution but cannot change it.

He said that it is not possible to hold elections with a show of hands. The whole cabinet seems to be ignorant. He said that such measures should be avoided which would increase hatred.

"Those who speak out against me will go to court and harm themselves," he said. We will use some things on time. We have 3 months to prepare for the Long March. The government has no idea about the condition of the people.
