Assembly members of all PDM parties to submit resignations by December 31: Fazlur Rehman

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Maulana Fazlur Rehman, head of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Chief, held a presser along with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif after today’s PDM meeting.

He said that during the meeting, Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari and Akhtar Mengal participated through video link and presented their respective positions. He also announced that PDM’s steering committee will meet tomorrow and fix the date for the movement’s long march.

He further said that the schedules of countrywide demonstrations, shutter-downs and wheel-jam strikes would be decided in tomorrow’s meeting.

Continuing, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that by December 31, all members of the National and Provincial Assemblies would submit their resignations to their respective party leaders. He said that the Lahore rally on December 13 will be historic and will serve as the last nail in the government’s coffin. If any attempt is made to disrupt the rally, it will be repulsed worse than Multan, he added.

Rejecting the invitation of negotiation by the government, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the government is on the ropes, and only needs a final push. Today, the fake Prime Minister offered to have dialogue but he is undeserving of any dialogue, he said.

The PDM chief said that regardless of whether the selectors stand with the government or not, the movement is against the entire system and those who rigged the elections should now ponder upon the consequences.

Earlier in the meeting, Maulana Fazlur Rehman proposed to launch Jail Bharo Tehreek [filling jails movement]. According to sources, Fazlur Rehman suggested that if any of the PDM leaders or key leaders are arrested, the option of Jail Bharo Tehreek should be considered, adding that all parties should prepare their workers in this regard.

The PDM chief said that in case of arrests, protest strategy and closure of national highways should also be carried out.

Sources further said that the meeting discussed the concerns of the PDM leadership regarding the long march towards Islamabad at the beginning of the New Year.

It was also suggested that the resignations be submitted after the long march and that this option be used in a timely manner.
