Pakistan Steel Mills employees, management approach SHC

KARACHI (Dunya News) - The employees and management of Pakistan Steel Mills have approached the Sindh High Court (SHC), the management has approached to allow a further 50% dismissals.

According to the management of the PSM, it was not possible to run Pakistan Steel Mills any more, this company is becoming a burden on the national exchequer. It has decided to lay off another 50 per cent of its employees.

The petition filed in the Sindh High Court said that the federal government has decided to privatize the steel mills. The company is in dire need of further retrenchments and reforms. Allow further dismissals under Section 11A.

The court remarked that it remains to be seen whether such large-scale dismissals can take place during Coronavirus.

The court directed the lawyer of Steel Mills to satisfy at the next hearing and adjourned the hearing till January 6.

Meanwhile, the Sindh High Court has dismissed the plea seeking urgent hearing against the recently dismissed more than 4,000 employees.

Arguments have been sought after court declared the petition admissible. The fired employees have called for the move to be declared illegal. The employees union of Pakistan Steel Mills has also requested the NAB to investigate the matter.
