FC, Rangers deployment in Gilgit Baltistan extended till December 2
Forces were deployed in Gilgit-Baltistan on November 5 before the elections.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The deployment of Frontier Constabulary (FC) and Rangers in Gilgit Baltistan for maintaining law and order has been extended till December 2, Dunya News reported on Friday.
The federal cabinet has given approval to extension of FC and Rangers deployment through a circulation summary. The extension has been given in the context of a peaceful transfer of power after the Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly election.
According to a summary of the Interior Ministry, forces were deployed in Gilgit-Baltistan on November 5 before the elections. Rangers and FC were deployed till November 20.
Sources said that now the date deployment of armed forces has been extended till December 2, 2020. The purpose of the extension is to maintain law and order during the formation of the government.
The strength of armed forces has also been increased and now 2,000 personnel will be on duty in Gilgit Baltistan including 1,050 paramilitary officials, 450 Rangers officials, 410 GB Scouts and 200 FC personnel.
Some political parties have expressed their reservation on the Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly election results while protests on November 23 had created law and order situation.
