Explosion kills five, injures 27 in Karachi's Gulshan Iqbal
Gas leak triggered blast in Karachi's Gulshan-e-Iqbal: BDS report
KARACHI (Dunya News) –Five people were killed and 27 others received injuries in an explosion in a four-storey building at Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 7.
A report Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) stated that the blast was caused by a gas leak. It said that it couldn’t find any evidence from the spot suggesting that the explosion was caused by explosive material.
The impact of the explosion was so severe that windowpanes of the nearby building were shattered. Balconies of two apartments have been completely destroyed, rescue officials said.
Police and Rangers reached the place of incident and launched a rescue operation while clearance operation was carried out by Bomb disposal squad.
The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital where the condition of seven people is said to be critical.
DG Sindh Rangers visited the place of the incident and inspected the damaged apartments.
While talking to media persons, the DG told that all injured have been rescued and damaged building has also been evacuated. He also revealed that the building will be demolished.
Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed grief over loss of precious human lives and sought report from Commissioner Karachi while IG Sindh police has summoned a report from SSP East.
Earlier on October 21, another bomb exploded in a passenger bus in Sheerin Jinnah Colony in the metropolis and injured at least four people.
The police officials said that the explosive material was likely to be planted at the gate of the bus terminal.
Later, a case was registered against unidentified men in the CTD police station at the behest of the government. Police sources said that provisions of anti-terrorism act were included in the case.
