Railway land lease inquiry against Khawaja Saad Rafique to continue: NAB

LAHORE (Dunya News) - NAB Lahore has denied closing the inquiry into leasing of railway lands by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leader and former Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique.

According to details, sources had said that after approval in the regional board meeting, DG NAB sent recommendations to NAB chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal for final approval. However, NAB has categorically rejected this, saying that no such decision has been taken and that the corruption probe will continue.

Khawaja Saad Rafique is accused of leasing railway land worth billions of rupees to favored clients at cheaper rates. He leased land on Lahore Walton Road and UET for a period of 33 years for the benefit of his preferred contractors.

According to the complainant, Pakistan Railways officials did not properly check before leasing the land and the land was leased to the company that made the highest bid.

The accusation of leasing land to favored parties against Saad Rafique was not proven, 12 plots were given to oil companies in different districts of Pakistan. A plot in Bhalwal was given to a company from Rawalpindi, while the commercial plot in Rahim Yar Khan was given to Jam Brothers.
