Nawaz Sharif phones Maulana Fazlur Rehman to discuss resignation committee

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo and former Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has telephoned Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) to discuss the formation of a committee for resignations from the assemblies.

This is the first time since the opposition’s APC that Nawaz Sharif and Maulana Fazlur Rehman have been in contact. During the phone call, the two leaders discussed the political situation in the country and the opposition’s movement against the government.

According to sources, the situation after the APC and the opposition’s future action plan were also discussed. There was also consultation on the formation of a committee for resignations from assemblies and on leadership of the opposition’s new ‘Pakistan Democratic Movement’ alliance.

Earlier in the day, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) widened the scope of investigation against Nawaz Sharif.

The anti-corruption watchdog has summoned details of the erstwhile premier’s properties, cars and bank accounts from the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Lahore deputy commissioner, excise department and private bank.

It is pertinent here to mention that the anti-graft body is conducting investigations on the directions of an accountability court (AC) in Islamabad in the Toshakhana reference.
