Criminal Abid Ali is resident of Fort Abbas

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab police have failed to arrest prime suspect Abid Ali of the motorway gang-rape incident despite multiple raids by law enforcement agencies.

Police has detained seven people including close relatives of Abid Ali. It was also revealed that the criminal is involved in illegal occupation of land and his brother is also involved in robberies and other crimes.

On the other hand, the DNA of suspect Shafqat has matched with the samples collected from the crime scene, security personnel confirmed on Monday.

The police officials arrested Shafqat on the identification of alleged co-accused Waqar-ul-Hassan, who appeared at CIA police station in Lahore’s Model Town yesterday.

The investigators further told that Waqar-ul-Hassan has not been found involved in the case after his DNA test report came negative.

Exclusively talking to Dunya News, Punjab information minister Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan said that mobile phone data of suspects Abid Ali and Waqar-ul-Hassan was recovered through geo-fencing. The security personnel are continuously carrying out raids to arrest the culprits, he told.

Chohan further said that Chief Minister of Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar is personally monitoring the case.

Abbas surrenders to police in Sheikhupura

Meanwhile, Waqar’s brother-in-law Abbas has also surrendered to police in Sheikhupura. Sources told that Abbas was using mobile phone connection issued on Waqar’s name.

Lahore CCPO apologizes over controversial statement

Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Umar Sheikh has on Monday apologized over his controversial statement regarding the motorway rape incident.

Umar Sheikh said, “I apologize to the victim and all other classes who were hurt by my remarks. I had no intention to give any wrong impression.”

The Lahore CCPO had earlier remarked that the rape victim should have been more careful and taken a safer route. He said, “The affected woman departed from Defence Area of Lahore after midnight and took motorway route instead of GT Road, that too without adequate fuel.

“The woman called her brother instead of police and her brother telephoned the motorway police at 130 to send a police mobile for her help.”
