Program for Karachi will have full support of Pak Army: COAS
Gen Bajwa said that no city in Pakistan can cope with a natural calamity of this scale
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday said that the country’s armed forces will not disappoint the people in difficult times and the program for Karachi will have the full support of the Pakistan Army.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public relations (ISPR), COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa arrived in Karachi on one-day official visit and was flown over the city for aerial reconnaissance of the impact of urban flooding in Karachi.
He reached the Corps Headquarters where he was received by Corps Commander Karachi Lieutenant General Humayun Aziz where he was briefed about the worst flooding in Karachi and army’s support to civil administration across Sindh and particularly Karachi.
The COAS was apprised that unprecedented rains, unplanned population settlement as well as infrastructural issues compounded the problem.
Speaking on the occasion, Gen Bajwa said that no city in Pakistan can cope with a natural calamity of this scale, adding that our problem is not lack of resources, but setting the priorities right.
He further said that the natural disasters provide an opportunity to set priorities and setting priorities right can prevent major losses. The program for Karachi will have the full support of the Pakistan Army, he said.
Gen Bajwa while expressing satisfaction on the ongoing relief work directed to intensify relief activities in public places and more affected areas.
“At no point influence of a particular locality or community should be allowed to shift attention or resources from those in need. It is a national disaster and everyone is in it together,” he remarked. The army chief reiterated that the army will not disappoint the population in their time of need.
