Boat capsizes in Thatta's Keenjhar Lake, killing several people

THATTA (Dunya News) – In a tragic accident in Thatta district’s Keenjhar Lake, a travel boat capsized with several people drowning in the lake. Bodies of ten people have been recovered so far while search for the others is on.

According to details, 15 women and a girl from the same family were returning from a shrine located in the middle of the lake when the boat capsized. All the passengers fell into the river, of which seven were rescued while eight women and one girl drowned. Three of the rescued women were rushed to the hospital in a state of unconsciousness.

In view of the situation, an emergency has been declared at the Civil Hospital Thatta. Survivors and the dead have been shifted to Karachi by Edhi ambulances which was supervised by PPP leader Hameed Panhwar and PTI s Javed Latif.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident and ordered an investigation report from DC Thatta.

The Chief Minister has asked the authorities why a rescue team was not present at the scene, saying that the loss of life in the accident is very painful. He directed that all possible assistance should be provided to the affected families.
