Govt completes repatriation operation of Pakistanis stranded abroad

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The government’s flight operation for the return of Pakistanis stranded abroad due to travel restrictions and covid-19 lockdowns has been completed.

Under the special operation, more than 304,000 Pakistanis were repatriated through more than 500 domestic and foreign flights. 300,000 Pakistanis returned by special flight operation while 4,329 Pakistanis returned home via land routes.

According to a document received by Dunya News from the Crisis Management Unit, 2,000 Tablighi Jamaat members, 1,326 visitors and 1,745 Pakistanis imprisoned in foreign jails returned through special flights.

The operation launched for the repatriation of Pakistanis stranded abroad made it possible to repatriate 154,000 Pakistanis from the United Arab Emirates, 63,595 from Saudi Arabia and 17,000 from Qatar.

11,729 Pakistanis returned from Oman, 4,469 from Bahrain, 6,339 from Turkey, 7,122 from the United Kingdom, 1,702 from the United States, 2,520 from China, 2,314 from Kuwait and 8,110 from Kyrgyzstan.

The document further said that 4,098 Pakistanis returned from Afghanistan and 1,080 from Iran under the special operation during lockdown. Similarly from land routes, 418 Pakistanis were repatriated from India, 2,987 from Afghanistan and 924 from Iran.
