PM Imran appeals to nation to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with simplicity
PM said any carelessness on Eid-ul-Azha will lead to a fresh spike in coronavirus cases.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday has appealed to the nation to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with simplicity and strictly observe standard operating procedures (SOPs) against coronavirus.
The premier said any carelessness on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha will lead to a fresh spike in the coronavirus cases.
He expressed satisfaction that with the cooperation of all the departments concerned the curve of coronavirus cases in the country is on the decline. He said smart lockdown has yielded positive results.
Earlier, PM inaugurated 250-bed Islamabad Isolation hospital and infectious treatment center for medical assistance of patients suffering from viral diseases.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Chinese delegation were also accompanying the premier on the occasion. During the visit, Imran Khan was briefed over the facilities available at the hospital.
It is to be mentioned here that state of the art facility was constructed in record forty days to meet additional requirements to ease pressure from capital hospitals.
Meanwhile, there has been an improvement in the number of recoveries from COVID-19 in Pakistan with figure now reaching 145,311.
Pakistan has confirmed 61 deaths in a single day by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 240,848. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 4,983.
According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) 3,359 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in 24 hours.
Sindh has become the worst-hit province by the pandemic in terms of cases followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad.
Till now 99,362 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 84,587 in Punjab, 29,052 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11,052 in Balochistan, 13,731 in Islamabad, 1,605 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 1,459 in Azad Kashmir.
Furthermore 1,955 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab, 1,637 in Sindh, 1,054 in KP, 124 in Balochistan, 142 in Islamabad, 31 in GB and 40 in Azad Kashmir.
Patients are under treatment at quarantine centers of 462 hospitals where 7,295 beds are available. Pakistan has so far conducted 1,491,437 coronavirus tests and 24,333 in last 24 hours.
