Twenty-two die as train rams into Sikh yatris' coaster bus in Sheikhupura.

SHEIKHUPURA (Dunya News) – 22 passengers died in an accident on Friday as Shah Hussain Express rammed into Sikh yatris’s coaster bus in Sheikhupura, Dunya News reported.

Pakistan Railways spokesperson told that the collision occurred at a railway crossing located between Farooqabad and Bahali Wala. Several passengers sustained injuries in the occurrence.



Rescue 1122 teams reached the incident spot and shifted the wounded to hospital. It has been learnt that around 25 Sikh yatris were going to Gurdwara Sacha Sauda from Peshawar while the train was enroute to Lahore from Karachi.



Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed took notice of the incident and summoned initial investigation report. The federal minister suspended divisional engineer and directed the concerned officials to take action against the persons responsible.



Prime Minister Imran Khan, COAS General Qamar javed Bajwa, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar and Federal Minster for Information Shibli Faraz expressed deep grief over the collision. The premier directed the concerned authorities to provide best medical facilities to the injured.

Meanwhile, the initial report of the train accident says that the accident took place at crossing no. 52-3 between Behlke and Farooqabad.



The report said that the accident took place due to the haste and negligence of the coach driver because he ignored the cautionary board as well as the speed breaker deployed by the Railways. Precious lives were lost due to his negligence and haste.



A committee of three senior officials was formed to investigate the accident, including Chief Engineer Open Line Shah Rukh Afshar, COPS Operating Amir Ali Baloch and CME Loco Abdul Malik. The report has been prepared by the committee and it will be presented to Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed.
