"Mayday, Mayday": Last conversation between PIA pilot and control tower
The pilot talked about technical problem including the loss of both the engines.
KARACHI (Dunya News) –The pilot of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK 8303 is heard saying he has lost both engines and then "Mayday, Mayday, Mayday," the international distress message in the final moments of the conversation with the air-traffic controllers
A PIA official said that in the last conversation with the control tower, the pilot talked about technical problem including the loss of both the engines.
A recording of conversation between the airport control tower and the pilot just before the crash confirmed engine failure. "I have lost one engine, May Day, May Day," said the pilot. The control tower informed the pilot that both the runways were available for landing." Then the tower lost the contact. The recording was aired on Dunya News.
The conversation goes like this:
Pilot: PK 8303 [to] Approach
ATC: Ji Sir
Pilot: We are to be turning left?
ATC: Confirmed
Pilot: We are proceeding direct, we have lost both the engines.
ATC: Confirm you are carrying out a belly landing?
Pilot: (Unclear)
ATC: Runway available to land on 2 5
Pilot: Roger
Pilot: Sir, Mayday, Mayday, Mayday, Pakistan 8303
ATC: Pakistan 8303, Roger Sir. Both runways are available to land.
That s where the audio cuts off.
Moments later, the PIA plane crashed into a residential area of Karachi, with many feared dead.
On the other hand, Dunya news obtained CCTV footage of the crash, which took flight from Lahore for Karachi earlier today and crashed into a residential area of Karachi with nearly 100 people on board.
The plane could be seen heading for landing in the CCTV footage and black thick smoke could also be seen after the crash.
