Govt to bring back 6,000 stranded Pakistanis per week: FM Qureshi
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Wednesday said that Pakistan was yet to touch the peak of coronavirus cases and feared spike in the end of May and early June.
In a statement, the Foreign Minister said that situation required preparedness not only to contain the virus but to minimize the effects of poverty as an aftermath. Pakistan could not afford continuous lockdown due to possible financial crisis and emphasized on a flexible strategy to be implemented as per ground realities, he added.
He also announced that federal government was considering bringing back 6,000 stranded Pakistanis per week as compared to the previous 2,000.
He said that thousands of stranded Pakistanis are anxiously waiting for their repatriation and government fully realizes their pain and difficulties. He said we are enhancing our capacity of testing and quarantining overseas Pakistanis upon their arrival in Pakistan so that they can be brought back in large numbers.
