PBM has not submitted reply in SC: CJP Gulzar

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmed, while conducting suo motu hearing on the coronavirus case, Monday said the Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) has not submitted reply in the Supreme Court.

Justice Gulzar Ahmed said in his remarks that the apex court is not aware the PBM’s performance and there seems no transparency in any activity. Same is the case with the Zakat and Ushr Department, he added.

“People are travelling in airplanes on Zakat funds which is not for TA, DA and foreign visits and the amount spent for relief is not transparent.”

Justice Umar Ata Bandial, part of the five-member larger bench, remarked, “The federal government has given over Rs 9 billion to the provinces. It should be monitored that for which purpose the amount is used.

“The provincial autonomy will not be harmed by keeping track of the expenditures. Monitoring is also a form of audit and the data should be shared with one another.”
