Coronavirus could affect four million jobs in Punjab: P&D Report
The report presented to CM Punjab estimates a financial loss of Rs 6-18 trillion to the province
LAHORE (Dunya News) – In a recent report, it is estimated that the coronavirus could result in a loss of Rs 1800 billion for the Punjab government and immediate loss of three to four million jobs. Moreover, the population living in poverty will reach 33%.
The report was prepared by the Planning & Development Department and presented to the Chief Minister Punjab, saying that the coronavirus is feared to deal a historic blow to Punjab s economy, decreasing GDP growth by 9%.
According to sources, the P&D report says that if coronavirus is not overcome in time, almost 40 million jobs could be affected. In Punjab, the poverty line will rise from covering 23% to 33% of the population while 19% of the middle class will reach dangerously close to the poverty line. The report presented to CM Punjab estimates a financial loss of Rs 6-18 trillion to the province.
