LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid has on Thursday said the government is standing with doctors who were tortured yesterday by lawyers and vowed to provide protection to them and patients.
The minister presided over a meeting at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) in Lahore which was attended by Punjab Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Additional Secretary Development Dr. Asif Tufail, PIC Chief Prof Dr. Saqib Shafi, PIC MS Dr. Muhammad Ameer and other faculty members.
Dr. Yasmin Rashid analyzed all aspects of the assault at the institution and assured that stern action would be taken against the lawyers who tortured doctors, damaged vehicles and obstructed treatment facilities at the PIC.
She announced that government will extend financial support after completing the process of damage estimation of doctors’ cars and official properties. No one would be allowed to stop treatment facilities and destroy peace at the hospital, she commented.
The health minister condemned the lawyers’ attack at the PIC and said they challenged the writ of government. Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has also issued strict orders to take stern action against the violent lawyers, she said.
Dr. Yasmin Rashid vowed to take the culprits to their logical end and told that she was also tortured among other ministers during the violent protest.
