Normalcy returns as schools reopen in earthquake-hit Mirpur

MIRPUR (Dunya News) – Normalcy has partially returned to earthquake-hit Azad Kashmir as educational institutions have reopened after 12-day closure in Mirpur.
According to details, the children with their bags have started to attend their schools amid ongoing rescue activities.
Earlier, one local was killed while two others sustained severe wounds as two-storey building collapsed due to earthquake aftershock in Mirpur on Saturday night.
The victims were taken to the district headquarters hospital for medical assistance where one succumbed to injuries. The residents said that the quake jolted the area at 3:00am.
On September 24, at least 40 people lost their lives and more than 500 received injuries in a 5.8 magnitude earthquake that rattled Azad Kashmir.
Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said about one thousand houses were fully damaged and 200,000 rupees each was given under this category, while 3,500 households were partially damaged, which was compensated with 50,000 rupees each.
The federal government had also provided half million rupees as compensation each for those, who died in the recent earthquake.
