The situation in occupied Kashmir cannot be overlooked, asserted Firdous Ashiq Awan.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Thursday said that the government has yet to take a decision regarding final draft for legislation of the controversial media tribunals.

Speaking exclusively with Dunya News’ program “Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Sath”, she expressed that the draft proposed by law minister has yet to finalize as matter cannot proceed without taking all stakeholders including PBA, CPNE and APNS into confidence.

She continued that the law minister briefed the cabinet on media tribunals and explained the procedure. However, they have yet to consult with stakeholders.

Firdous Ashiq Awan explained that the media is playing a key role in ensuring change. “The Prime Minister Imran Khan recognizes the power of the media and wants to make its role more active”, she added.

SAPM asserted that the media cannot make the self-regulations yet. She added that some members in the federal cabinet meeting raised concerns about fake news.

Responding to a question, she said that instability in the region would not benefit anyone. “In Iran and Saudi Arabia, matters can be resolved through dialogue and it has been the position of Pakistan since day one,” she maintained.

Firdous Ashiq Awan expressed, “Friends can be replaced, not neighbors and Iran is our neighbor while China is our strategic partners”.

She said that PM Imran wants to pay respect at Roza-e-Rasool (Peace Be Upon Him) before going to the United States of America.

Talking about the Kashmir issue, she said that the Saudi Prince had announced to be the ambassador of Pakistanis. “The situation in occupied Kashmir cannot be overlooked”, she added.
