SC acquits man sentenced to life in prison for murdering brother

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court on Monday acquitted a man who had been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his brother.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Asif Saeed Khosa heard the case via video link at the Lahore Registry.

During the proceedings, the lawyers presented their arguments.

Giving his remarks, the CJP said that according to the FIR, the incident occurred in the midnight in field and the victim died at the spot, while according to the post mortem report the victim died after midnight and the post mortem was conducted 11 hours after the death of the accused.

Justice Asif Saeed Khosa said only the ones behind the murder will benefit, if one brother is killed and the other is hanged.

The court later acquitted Abdul Razzak because giving him the benefit of the doubt.

A trial court had sentenced him to death for killing his brother Amanat Ali and the Lahore High Court had later commuted the sentence to a life imprisonment.
