Flood warning issued as water level continues to rise in river Chenab

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Flood control room on Friday informed that water inflow in the river Chenab has been recorded at 140,000 cusecs and emission at 120,000 cusecs which has submerged the nearby corn and sugarcane crops.

According to the details, the water level has started to rise at the river Chenab in Chiniot. Flood warning has been issued by the district administration for the lower areas.

Rescue has set up five flood relief camps for any unforeseen situation. The administration has imposed section 144 on the river Chenab and banned bathing and boating in the river.

On July 31, in an act of water terrorism, India has released millions cusecs water into the river Chenab without prior information.

Sources said the river Chenab is flooded after water released by India caused 55000 cusecs water increase in five hours. The water flow in Chenab has increased to 237000 cusecs from 182000 cusecs causing an alarming situation of nearby villages.

Sources further said India has not informed Pakistan about water release till now. India is bound to inform Pakistan from July 1 as per the agreement.

National Disasters Management Authority (NDMA) alerted that medium to high level flows are expected in the River Jhelum & Chenab and medium level flows are also expected in River Kabul and Indus. Urban Flooding is also likely in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Lahore & Sargodha Divisions.
