Speaker office halts Zardari's production order

Chairman Standing Committee Yousaf Talpur had signed the issuance of production orders.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Speaker office on Monday halted the production order of former President Asif Ali Zardari from attending the Standing Committee’s meeting on water resources.

According to Dunya News, the meeting is scheduled to take place on July 10 and 11 whereas Chairman Standing Committee on Water Resources Yousuf Talpur signed the issuance of production order to Zardari.

Dunya News sources told that secretariat of the Assembly sent the production order to Ministry of Law rather than approving it while Speaker Office refrained the concerned officials from issuing Zardari’s production order.

According to the sources, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique’s production order was also terminated. Political activities of both PPP and PML-N leaders were given as a reason from suspending their production orders.

Relevant authorities wrote a note on the summary of production orders that both Zardari and Khawaja exercise politics in the House.

Chairman Standing Committee protested against the Assembly secretariat and asserted that he is authorized to issue production orders according to the rules.

On June 19, theproduction orders for former president Asif Zardari and PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique wereissued. Both the leaders were arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in separate graft cases.

Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser issued production orders of Asif Zardari and Khawaja Saad who are currently under NAB’s custody.

Earlier, members of the Opposition and government coalition parties signed a petition for the issuance of Zardari’s production order.

At the request of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), members of the government coalition parties signed the petition application.

The petition application was signed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Syed Aminul Haque, Balochistan National Party Chairman Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Balochistan Awami Party’s Khalid Magsi and Jamhoori Wattan Party’s Shahzain Bugti.

PPP leaders had protested outside speaker’s office for issuance of production orders of Asif Zardari and said it was constitutional right of member of parliament to attend the session of assembly to represent his voters.

On June 10, the National Accountability Bureau arrested Zardari in the fake bank accounts case from Islamabad after a bench of the Islamabad High Court had rejected a plea filed by Zardari and his sister, Faryal Talpur, seeking an extension in their interim bail in the fake bank accounts case.

The case pertains to transactions worth hundreds of millions of rupees to the two leaders private companies, allegedly, through fake bank accounts.
