Next budget won't affect poor: Hafeez Sheikh
Every step will be taken to increase the tax revenue of the country: Finance advisor
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Financial Advisor Abdul Hafeez Sheikh said on Saturday that budget 2019-2020 will not affect the poor strata of country as the main focus of his team is to improve the economy of Pakistan.
In an exclusive talk to Dunya News, he expressed that every step will be taken to increase the tax revenue of the country. “We won’t let masses to be affected by taxes and inflation”, he added.
Hafeez Shiekh asserted that job opportunities will also be generated in the next budget. Fiscal year 2019-2020 budget will be subjected to economic austerity as unnecessary expenses will be cut to reduce the losses of the country, he added. Pakistan cannot afford such unnecessary expenses in current economic situation.
The government missed all the key economic targets for the current fiscal year where Gross Domestic Product (GDP) locked at 3.3 percent and was almost halved from the target set at 6.2 percent owing to sharp drop in agriculture production and negative growth heralded at industrial sector.
Economic survey report will be released on Monday and the government is likely to set economic growth target of 4% for 2019-20.
