Global health experts reach Larkana to investigate HIV outbreak

Experts will submit a report on HIV outbreak by June 11.
LARKANA (Dunya News) – Delegation team of global health experts arrived in Ratodero, Sindh district, to investigate the HIV outbreak on the request of federal government. Experts will submit a report on HIV outbreak by June 11.
Provincial Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho welcomed the team of experts in Deputy Commissioner Office where World Health Organization (WHO) briefed Sindh Health Ministry on the prescription of provided medicines.
Sindh Health Minister will reside in Larkana for few days and provide assist to the experts team.
10-member team of experts includes representatives from WHO, The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) America and other organizations from the USA, UK, Sri Lanka, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Canada, Thailand, Lebanon and Ethiopia.
Dr. Oliver Morgan, Director of Health Emergency Information and Risk Assessment, in the Health Emergencies Program of World Health Organization (WHO) is heading the team.
Expert team will conduct an investigation and submit its report by June 11 whereas they will also treat and meet the HIV-affected patients and their families in Ratodero.
The outbreak was first reported on April 25, 2019, and a major HIV screening programme was started three days later. It was expanded on May 8, with additional health workers being deployed.
