Farishta murder case: PM takes notice of delay in arrest of SHO
Prime Minister has also ordered action against police officials for negligence in the case.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday took notice of delay in arrest of the station house officer (SHO) and other relevant officials of Islamabad’s Shahzad Town Police Station in the Farista case, despite lodging of an FIR a day earlier and sought an explanation from the Deputy Inspector General (Operations) and Inspector General of Police.
Prime Minister has ordered action against police officials for negligence in a case pertaining to alleged rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl, Farishta, in Islamabad, according to a statement issued from his office on Wednesday.
The first information report (FIR) was registered against Station House Officer (SHO) Shahzad Town Sub-Inspector Muhammad Abbas Rana and other police officials following the abduction, murder and alleged rape of the 10-year-old girl Farishta.
However, the police arrested the SHO for negligence a day after the lodging of the FIR.
Prime Minister Imran Khan took notice of the tragic incident in federal capital and ordered direct action in Farishta s case, PM Office statement said.
The PM suspending Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abid and placed Superintendent of Police (SP) Umar Khan as officer on special duty (OSD).
The premier has also sought an explanation from inspector general (IG) Islamabad and deputy inspector general (DIG) Operations over police negligence.
Farishta’s body was discovered from forest two days ago and later shifted to the Poly Clinic for post-mortem.
Farishta, who belonged to Mohmand area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was killed after being allegedly raped and her body was thrown in the forest after the horrific crime.
The girl’s family said they had reported her disappearance to the police on May 15 after she had left the house to get Iftar. The family claims it took the police till May 19 to register an FIR and even then a proper search was not launched. The body of the minor was discovered by locals in a forest who then informed the police.
The family held a protest demonstration at Tarmri Chowk with the dead body of the girl. They held local police responsible for the rape and murder of the girl.
