Govt accepts IMF conditions to increase power and gas prices

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal government decided on Wednesday to increase power and gas tariff after International Monetary Fund (IMF) persisted with its demand for decisive measures from Pakistan for a bailout package.

As per Dunya News sources, the government has accepted the conditions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to increase the prices of power and gas.

Sources reveal that govt has agreed to make National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) autonomous for making decisions regarding the electricity tariff independently.

In the power and gas sector, taxes worth Rs340b will be collected from the consumers during the next three years.

The government has also decided to withdraw subsidy from all, except the domestic consumers, limited amount of subsidy will be accorded to the export industry.

Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will also be made independent in determining the gas prices
