SC dismisses Waseem Akhtar's petition against imprisonment.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court (SC) has on Tuesday dismissed former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member National Assembly (MNA) Sheikh Waseem Akhtar’s petition against imprisonment.
Chief justice Asif Saeed Khosa said in his remarks that slogans were raised against judges and judiciary, and the Lahore High Court (LHC) had already reduced the sentence from six months to one.
The chief justice maintained that it has become a habit to abuse the judiciary first, and to apologize afterwards.
The petitioner’s counsel took the stance that the plaintiff had apologized before and seeks unconditional apology now as well. The apex court dismissed the petition and remarked that there is no need to interfere in the LHC’s verdict.
