PM Imran Khan will announce poverty alleviation programme at Convention Centre in Islamabad today.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan will announce poverty alleviation programme during a ceremony at the Convention Centre in Islamabad today (Wednesday), Dunya News reported.

An amount of Rs 120 billion has been earmarked for the programme titled ‘Ehsaas aur Kifalat’ (support and care). Dr Sania Nishtar, chairperson of Benazir Income Support Programme, will inform about the details of the programme during the ceremony.

During a meeting with Dr Sania Nishtar on Tuesday in Islamabad, the Prime Minister said the government was taking the first major step towards eliminating poverty and added that the care for people is the utmost priority of the government.

Acknowledging the advice and guidance of China, the prime minister said, “We have learnt from our China visit how they did the historic job of bringing 700 million people out of poverty in just three decades.”

According to sources, welfare projects like Pakistan Baitul Maal, Zakat and Usher and Benazir Income Support Programme would be merged into on organization.

Sources further informed that through poverty alleviation programme, financial assistance will be provided to widows, orphaned, transgender and elderly persons.
