Govt ready to provide container to opposition at D-Chowk: PM Imran

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Amid recent strife between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led alliance and the opposition parties, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Monday denounced political rivals over what he termed “blackmailing and defending their corruption” behind the protest they have been calling for.
In his talk to the journalists, he said if the opposition seeks to stage a protest, we [the government] are ready to provide them a container at D-Chowk.
“Under what section of the constitution should Nawaz Sharif be allowed to travel abroad? An amendment cannot be put into effect solely for him,” he said.
He revealed that massive oil and gas reserves could be discovered underneath the Arabian Sea in the ongoing oil and gas drilling.
“We [the PTI] staged a sit-in for 126 days, let’s see for how many days can the opposition protest,” he said, adding they could not launch a movement while the general public would not support them.
He further criticized the opposition for giving the designation of chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to a person who has been interrogated in corruption charges by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
“The NAB is an independent department, it is not under the influence of the government,” he said.
Regarding foreign policy, he said it is better than the last 20 years as bilateral relations with countries including, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Malaysia, Turkey and China have been improved.
Concerning relations with the U.S., he said Pakistan has been appreciated by the state which had forever longed for ‘do more’ as Pakistan’s role in Afghan peace process is being considered vital.
Regarding recent conflict between Pakistan and India, he expressed no hope that the relations could be improved until the general elections are concluded in India.
“Pakistan needs to be alert as threat of terrorism by India inside Pakistan persists,” he added.
