LHC bars new JIT from investigating Model Town Massacre

LHC while approving the hearing of petitions, issued notices to Punjab government.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday barred the newly formed joint investigation team (JIT) from working in the Model Town case.

As per details garnered, Lahore High Court (LHC) announced the verdict against the newly constituted JIT in the Model Town case. LHC while approving the hearing of petitions, issued notices to Punjab government.

A three member full bench headed by Justice Qasim Khan including Justice Malik Shehzad, Ahmed Khan and Justice Miss Alia Neelum, presided over the hearings of petitions filed by inspector Rizwan and others.

During the course of the hearing, the applicant’s lawyer termed the constitution of another JIT while the first one was working unlawful.

The petitioner’s lawyer requested the court to dismiss Punjab government’s action, pertaining to formation of the new JIT.

It is pertinent to mention here that the government’s lawyers raising objection over maintainability of the petitions sought dismissal of the petitions.

LHC full bench after the completion of initial arguments reserved the verdict.
