Model Town tragedy: Shehbaz Sharif records his statement before JIT
According to sources, he was inquired by the JIT for about 45 minutes.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly (NA) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif on Monday recorded his statement before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing into the Model Town tragedy.
According to sources, he was inquired by the JIT for about 45 minutes.
The investigation team had recently rejected a request made by Shehbaz Sharif for recording his statement without appearing before the JIT in person.
Moreover, the JIT will also record statement of former premier Nawaz Sharif, who is serving seven-year sentence at the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore.
Other PML-N leaders including Pervez Rasheed, Khawaja Asif and Rana Sanaullah have already appeared before the investigation team.
On June 17, 2014, at least 14 people were killed and 100 members of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) sustained critical bullet wounds when police opened fire allegedly to disperse the protesting PAT workers during an anti-encroachment operation outside the residence of PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri in Model Town, Lahore.
