World leaders laud PM Imran's decision of releasing Indian pilot Abhinandan
The Prime Minister Imran Khan briefed the leaders on the situation.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, has welcomed Pakistan’s decision to release Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman, who was captured when his MiG-21 was shot down by Pakistan Air Force for violating the Pakistani airspace.
UN Chief’s spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, talking to reporters in New York said, “The report of the release of the Indian pilot by the Pakistani authorities would be very much a welcome step. We would encourage both parties to do whatever they can to de-escalate the situation.”
Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has appreciated Pakistan for its efforts for de-escalation of tensions with India and announcement to release the captured Indian pilot.
In a telephonic call to the Prime Minister Imran Khan, he said Islam is a religion of peace that underscores resolving disputes in a peaceful manner.
The Prime Minister Imran Khan briefed President Erdogan on the situation as it evolved over the past few days and the efforts he made to de-escalate the crisis. He also referred to the extremely difficult situation in Indian occupied Kashmir and the brutalities inflicted upon the Kashmiri people.
The Prime Minister thanked President Erdogan for his constant support for Pakistan and the Kashmiri people.
On the other hand, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said that Washington is in constant touch with both Pakistan and India for de-escalation of tensions between them.
Pompeo said that during telephonic conversation with leaders of both countries, he exchanged good information. He urged the both countries to not take any action that would escalate and create increased risk.
US Secretary of State expressed the hope to take down the tension. He said that the US is working to reduce risk of escalation between two countries.
