Death toll in Karachi building collapse rises to five
The death toll from the collapse of a three-storey residential building in Karachi rose to five.
KARACHI (Dunya News) - The death toll from the collapse of a three-storey residential building in Jafar-e-Tayyar area of Karachi rose to five, while two others were wounded, Dunya News reported.
According to rescue workers, the death toll in the incident had risen to five after two more people were pulled out of the rubble on Monday night. One of the deceased was identified as 20-year-old Shabhi Haider.
The three-storey residential building, in Jafar-e-Tayyar area of Karachi, collapsed on Monday morning. According to initial reports three persons, including owner of the building, were killed in the incident.
Governor Sindh and Chief Minister Sindh have taken notice of the incident and sought immediate report from concerned authorities.
According to rescue officials, the building was damaged during anti-encroachment derive in the city and repair work was underway.
Federal Minister of Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi, Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar, PTI leaders Firdoos Shamim Naqvi, Khurram Sher Zaman and Commissioner Karachi visited the site to review rescue operation.
