SC hears water moot declaration case

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court (SC) on Friday conducted hearing on a case regarding implementation on water conference declaration.

During the hearing, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar said withholding tax on mobile phones cards and tax mineral water can generate Rs36 billion and Rs7 billion respectively.

The CJP further said that the court means to help the government collect funds for dam construction.

Meanwhile, CJP directed WAPDA to submit a fresh PC-1 for the construction of Nai Gaj Dam in Sindh within fifteen days.

He issued this directive while hearing a case about the construction of Nai Gaj Dam as head of a three member-bench in Islamabad on Friday.

The court rejected a plea by WAPDA seeking a one month time for the purpose.
