Anti-Encroachment Drive: Violent clashes leave several wounded in Karachi
The anti-encroachment drive has been extended to four districts of the province
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Clashes broke out between protesters and police after a team of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) entered the Korangi’s Mehran Town area to demolish encroachments.
Mehran town had become the battlefield as soon as Karachi Development Authority (KDA) team reached along with police to demolish the illegal buildings but in the response dwellers obstructed them to save their houses.
The agitated area residents shot at and pelted with stones the KDA team.
During the clashes, at least four people, including two KDA officials, were injured, while two cars and four motorcycles were set on fire by the mob.
An estate agency was also set on fire. The anti-encroachment drive was extended to four districts of the province.
On Tuesday, the KDA continued anti-encroachment drive in Urdu Bazaar and Sadar Town where police and Rangers had been deployed to avoid the interference of land mafia.
