Anti-encroachment operation bears no fruit for Korangi residents

Grand anti-encroachment operation on orders of Supreme Court is in full swing in Karachi.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Although the grand anti-encroachment operation on orders of Supreme Court is in full swing in Karachi, the ongoing spree of purging the provincial capital of abuse of state land has met with resistance from land mafia in Korangi which itself houses office of District Chairman.
The Karachi Development Authority (KDA) is conducting grand operation against illegal constructions in the metropolis, however, in Korangi Town the Supreme Court orders to restore public parks to their original shape but use remained ineffective to remove encroachment on such a park adjacent to the office of Chairman Korangi Town, located in front of Saudabad police station precincts.
According to details, the park had been converted into a marriage lawn on political basis long time ago with some influential group in its charge. As per UC chairman version, despite repeated requests to Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) for buttressing the legal action and their cold response he has been unable to vacate illegal possession of park from land mafia.
It merits mentioning here that the then Karachi Mayor Syed Mustafa Kamal had got constructed an overhead water tank at a cost of Rs.1.25 billion in the park which is still lying unused ever since.
