Pakistan, IMF will start policy level talks today

SLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan and visiting International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation will kick off policy level talks in Islamabad today (Monday), Dunya News reported.

Finance Minister Asad Umar will head the Pakistani side during the policy level talks. Sources informed that the volume of loan would be finalized in the policy level talks.

The IMF delegation which arrived in Islamabad on November 6, has so far held technical talks with Pakistan’s authorities over a possible bailout package. The talks between the IMF and Pakistan will continue till November 20.

Sources said that the Pakistani side will brief the IMF delegation about about Pakistan’s debt especially related to China Pakistan China Corridor (CPEC) during the policy level talks.

The steps for curbing money laundering can come under discussion in the meeting. Pakistan will have to present complete strategy on money laundering matter. The moves for reining in tax evasion can be considered as well.

Sources said that the IMF may set conditions for new loan programme including increasing power tariff and depreciating the currency. Demand for raising tax income will also be raised in the meeting
