No orders yet to release Asia Bibi: IG Prisons
IG Punjab Prisons Shahid Saleem Baig said Asia Bibi is still languishing in prison.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Inspector General of Punjab Prisons Shahid Saleem Baig has said that Asia Bibi is still languishing in prison and jail authorities have received no orders pertaining to release.
Speaking to DW, IG Punjab Prisons Shahid Saleem Baig Baig said he could not disclose her whereabouts due to security reasons.
It is pertinent to mention here that protesters on Thursday filed a review petition against the Supreme Court verdict that overturned the death sentence of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman who was convicted for blasphemy in 2010.
The peition, filed in the Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry, argued that Asia Bibi had confessed to her crime during interrogation. It also asked the apex court to review its decision and place her name on the Exit Control List (ECL).
